Neon Machine, a Web3 gaming developer, has secured $20 million in a Series A funding round to support the development of its extraction shooter game, ‘Shrapnel’. The company, which boasts a team with experience working on popular games like Call of Duty, West World, and Halo, has garnered significant support from investors such as Polychain Capital, Brevan Howard Digital, Franklin Templeton, Griffin Gaming Partners, IOSG Ventures, and Tess Ventures. This funding follows Neon’s previous raise of $10.5 million in June 2021.
Described as an AAA game, ‘Shrapnel’ aims to deliver a high-quality, immersive first-person shooter experience with multiplayer features similar to Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: Warzone’. The game is expected to be available to paid subscribers in December, with plans to launch as a free-to-play title in 2024.
Although ‘Shrapnel’ is still in the pre-alpha testing phase, initial gameplay footage has unveiled exciting competitive elements centered around “extraction” mechanics. In-game assets will be stored on-chain, providing players with heightened security and protection against rivals.
