Magic Leap, the augmented reality (AR) company, has appointed Ross Rosenberg as its new CEO. Rosenberg, who will assume his role on November 1st, is a seasoned professional with experience in operations, strategy, and marketing. He has previously worked with companies such as Bain Capital, First Solar, Danaher, and Belden, helping them launch and develop new technologies.
Magic Leap is undergoing a transformation, shifting its focus towards the enterprise market. The company aims to support the adoption of its AR platform technologies in various industries, including healthcare, design, manufacturing, and collaboration. Under the leadership of outgoing CEO Peggy Johnson, Magic Leap successfully rebranded and launched the Magic Leap 2, receiving positive feedback in the XR (extended reality) world.
Johnson, who joined the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania after leaving Magic Leap, played a pivotal role in repositioning the company as a collaborative enterprise platform. She also helped establish the university’s Business in the Metaverse Economy program, which offers students certificates qualifying them for work in future metaverse platforms.
In terms of technological advancements, Magic Leap achieved a significant milestone earlier this year when the Magic Leap 2 received IEC 60601 certification, certifying it for use as electronic medical equipment. This certification allows surgeons and doctors to interact with patients in immersive ways, making it easier to access patient records and perform medical procedures.
Additionally, Magic Leap has enhanced its platform’s compatibility with OpenXR, an industry-standard API for XR applications. This move demonstrates the company’s commitment to building an open and accessible AR ecosystem, enabling developers, enterprises, and users to innovate and collaborate more efficiently.
As Magic Leap transitions under Rosenberg’s leadership, the company aims to continue supporting the enterprise sector and addressing the challenges of its operations and customers. Rosenberg recognizes the growing need for AR technologies in the business world and is excited to guide Magic Leap through its next phase of growth.
Peggy Johnson expressed her pride in the leadership team she built at Magic Leap and thanked the employees for their contributions in successfully reorienting the company towards the enterprise market. With Johnson’s departure, Rosenberg will take charge and lead Magic Leap towards further success in the evolving AR market.
